INTO THE LIGHT OF GOD

"I  will praise You (the one true God, Jesus Christ), with my whole heart,  and will sing praises to You, my Holy Father", this is my sentiment of  faith based upon Psalm138:1.  When we seek and praise God, even in  plight and a spiritual fight, we find the light of His holy providence  to see us through!  

I  am reminded of the story of nineteenth-century South African pastor and  writer, Andrew Murray, who was feeling unwell, when a woman came seeking  his advice about a troubling situation.  Unable to see this woman he  wrote the following advice (in part) on paper, delivered by his  housekeeper to the woman.  Believe, "I am here by God's appointment, in  His keeping, under His training, for His name."   What Pastor Murray  conveyed in simple terms, was not to worry, God was in control, being  the light in the darkness.

Like Job we may often wonder when  faced with difficult situations, where is God in all this?  "Shall we  indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?" - Job 2:10.  It  is a fact of life that we learn through trial and error.  And when faced  with hardship, we often get stressed out, worried, and filled with  anxiety.  We may lament,  " How long, O Lord? Will you forget me  forever?  How long will You hide Your face from me? - Psalm 13:1.  

It  is in times of sorrow that we often turn to God the most.  As such, we  must remember, God is there, with us, all the time!  He never leaves us  nor forsakes us.  He goes with us in the dark, shedding light that  guides our way home.  We get through the storms of life "under God's  training", which is and always will be, outlined in His Holy word.  By  faith, we learn to trust in Him through the trial, which leads us out of  the pit of errors snare.

God's word is active, offering a  battle plan of authority (Eph. 6), on how to defeat the enemy, Satan,  who seeks to enslave us in fear, doubt, and apprehension (John 10:10).    As born again Christians, we have salvation, coupled with His word,  name, and shed blood, which provides the power to remove the darkness  that holds us captive.  Remaining in the light of God's word, is a  simple act of faith.

INOCULATE AGAINST FUTURE STRESS BY TRUSTING IN GOD

Josh  Gerow, with contributing Authors, Roddick Chatmon and Don Crews, write  in their book, "Basic Psychology", (Bent Tree Press, 2006), page 225,  concerning the importance of inoculating ourselves against future  stressors:

"Inoculating yourself against future stressors often  amounts to trying to develop a sense of optimism in the belief that  generally good things, as opposed to bad things, will happen to you.   People with this sort of optimistic outlook 'routinely maintain higher  levels of subjective well-being during times of stress than do people  who are less optimistic." - (Scheier & Carver, 1993, p. 27). 

There  is nothing in this world that can give us more of an optimistic outlook  in life, than dependence upon God, and His word (John 1:1), with  promises of a blessed hope and a future (Jere. 29:11).  John Calvin has  said, and I agree, "Hope is the foundation of patience."  By placing our  hope in God, we get into the light, trusting in His timing, and the providence of His training, to see us through.
